Becky Ackerman (that's me!) was born and raised in Iowa—in a city and not on a farm—where I grew up loving dinosaurs and paleontology, as well as tennis and summers spent at the swimming pool. I received my bachelors degree in geology from Northwestern University and went to work at Chicago's Field Museum as an exhibit developer working on a major dinosaur exhibit. It was the experience of a lifetime but ultimately not something I was interested in pursuing.
Instead, I decided that personal training and fitness instruction would be a great way for me to combine my love of exercise and physical activity, and my dislike for sitting behind a desk. I now hold certifications from the American Council on Exercise as a personal trainer, a lifestyle and weight management consultant, and a group fitness instructor. I am a certified Level 1 & 2 Mat Pilates
Instructor with STOTT PILATES®, and I'm a Spinning® instructor. I've taught cycling and group strength training classes at various gyms, run the fitness center at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel, San Juan, and for the last several years owned my own in-home personal training business in Puerto Rico. Despite the drastic change in climate, I am excited to be in New York City, and I look forward to having the opportunity to work with you. |
